I am looking at having a home built in the next few months. I hope this is the correct section, if not mods please move. AVS Forum Looking into Windows Media Center/Extenders Read this thread and you’ll find out quite a bit. I don’t have a problem because I’m using either Windows Media Center PC’s or Xbox360’s as Extenders. There are some complications using anything other than Windows Media Center and WMC Extenders because of the “Copy Freely” bit. You will want to view this forum thread at AVS Forums where I post my entire setup and others post about theirs. What’s a good/easy way to get DVR abilities when using this kind of device? What else is needed to use this with your “normal” HDTV that I currently connect to using HDMI? Maybe the 5 tuner model would be a better fit?īut really what I am looking to find out is: The only other devices I could see using “TV” would be an iPad or Windows PC/Tablet. I have 1 MRDVR, 1 HD STB, and 1 SD STB (but I would like this box to be HD). I too have FIOS and was hoping you could share your experience and/or details on setup. I would LOVE to ditch my cable boxes and DVR, if possible in favor of this sort of setup. I don’t currently use it for OTA reception. No more DVR fees or HD Set Top Box fees monthly. I get FiOS basic service for $15/mo plus their cable card for $5/month and I get everything I need in full HD with surround sound. Yes, it works fine with Windows 8 as well because I’ve used it with Windows 7 and Windows 8.īest tuner for the money because it’s stand-alone sitting on your network allowing anybody with a PC, laptop, etc. It also works wonderfully with Windows Media Center, XBMC and others. You connect to it using the supplied software and your network. The great thing about this tuner is that it doesn’t plug into your PC. It works great with a cable card for any and all cable channels. So, you can tune into HD programming being broadcast OTA. It will receive OTA (Over The Air via antenna) digital signals as well. You DO NOT need a cable card unless you want to receive your cable company’s encrypted programming. ![]()
